PASII (Proactive Approach to Safe Incident Intervention)

Target group

Direct care workers, case managers, coordinators, volunteers, carers and anyone who provides care and/or support to people who may engage in challenging or high-risk behaviours.

What you will learn

This course comprises four modules over two days to assist staff and carers to develop the skills and awareness to manage challenging and high-risk behaviours (including critical incidents) in a safe and informed way. It takes a comprehensive and systematic approach which is designed to support individuals and staff teams to develop greater understanding and empathy towards clients and to prevent, predict, assess and manage incidents in a manner that helps minimize risk and provide positive outcomes for clients, staff and agencies.

Using a person-centred framework, the training puts the client, their support, development and safety at the centre of the picture, whilst encouraging you to look beyond the challenging behaviours, and understand the communicative function behind them.

As part of the course, you will be trained in protective behaviours, and learn how to safely manage incidents within a legislative, ethical, and clinically informed practice framework.

You will gain an understanding of the profiling factors for individual clients, and the impact of these factors on behaviour, support needs, and the preventative measures that can be taken to avoid unsafe situations.
