Family Therapy

SAL Consulting therapists are able to provide family therapy according to the ethical and practice guidelines developed by the Australian Psychological Society. Family therapy differs from individual therapy in that the focus of therapy is the systems of interaction between each person in the family.

The social and developmental experience of each individual determines the views and values they hold regarding relationships, meaning that at times, individual therapy may need to occur as part of the family therapy.

It is not uncommon for families to sometimes struggle with differences, specific behaviours and emotions. Our therapists work with the family to better understand how they interact with each other; identify strengths within the family system; develop communication skills and resolving issues that the family identify. Family Therapy involves a commitment to an understanding of the system as a whole and the relationships within the family system.
