Summary Professional Experience:
Doug has worked with people who have complex behaviour support needs for more than 35 years. He has worked as a Special Ed teacher, a behaviour support practitioner in a Community support team, Manager of a cluster of Group Homes for people with complex behaviour and for 15 years was the Senior Manager Behaviour Support for a Specialist Regional Behaviour Intervention team.
He has extensive experience working with families, staff and agencies to develop shared and agreed ways to support people who have very complex support needs. Over his working career he has been asked to review many situations where a person’s support has broken down or become homeless due to the complexity of their support and subsequently assisted in the developed of a shared and agreed way forward.
For more than 20 years Doug has also been involved in the Restrictive Practice Process, assisting agencies develop their processes, developing the skills of RPA Convenors and Independent specialists and also providing independent specialist advice for people with very complex support due to mental health and Criminal Justice issues.
Doug also has extensive experience and a keen interest in the recruitment, training, support and supervision of behaviour support practitioners.
