Children with Autism - NDIA Consultation
Ensuring that children with Autism Spectrum Disorder are properly supported is important to us!
SAL Consulting is encouraged to see the NDIA seeking submissions regarding the approach to supporting children with Autism under 13 years of age, and their families. The consultation process has been based on the early intervention research paper delivered by Autism CRC in November 2020 which was commissioned by the NDIA (accessible from NDIA website).
There are many positive inclusions in the Discussion Paper, and we support the focus on finding better ways to provide information to families.
We have also highlighted the importance of behaviour support as a component of multi-disciplinary early intervention, especially for children with more complex support needs who are in the ECEI pathway.
There are many opportunities for improving the consideration of Reasonable and Necessary disability supports for children with complex support needs. We look forward to seeing the outcome of this much needed initiative, and hope that our contribution to the consultation process adds to the dialogue around what’s really needed.
