Trauma Informed Positive Behaviour Support for Children and Young People
Target Group: Direct care workers, case managers, coordinators, volunteers, carers and anyone who provides care and / or support to children and young people who may engage in challenging behaviours or behaviours of concern.
Gain an understanding of the impact of trauma, and the principles of positive behaviour support in line with current research, legislation and industry standards of practice. Children and young people in Out of Home Care often display behaviours that are challenging both for carers, and other people in the community.
Understanding the neuro-developmental impact of trauma, what Positive Behaviour Support is all about, and learning the basic underpinning framework that provides support to children and young people with intensive behaviour support needs are essential prerequisites for working in residential care, or supporting a high needs foster care placement.
You will explore the following topics:
- Understanding the Neuro-developmental impact of Trauma
- Developing a profile of the child or young person
- Assessment of Behaviour
- Formulation – thinking about the behaviour, the context and the support
- Understanding “The Box”
- Challenging Incidents
- Behaviour Intervention Support Plans
- Ecological Supports: Routines, Star Charts, House Rules and other tricky frameworks.
