Effective and Congruent Supervision
Target group
This course is for both new and experienced supervisors in Human Services sector.
What you will learn
Research has demonstrated that good supervision is associated with worker effectiveness, job satisfaction, commitment to the organisation and staff retention. Supervision works best when it pays attention to task assistance, social and emotional support and when workers have a positive relationship with supervisors. It is important to provide opportunities for reflective supervision, when emotionally charged nature of the work can place particular demands on staff (Carpenter et al, 2015).
At this course, you will gain both knowledge and practical skills to apply back in the workplace to become a skilful supervisor. You will explore how to develop a learning environment within your agency, and cover topics including Introduction to Supervision, “Good Enough” Supervision, Adult Learning Principles, Understanding & Developing Skill Sets, Constructive Feedback, Questioning Approaches, Coaching, Mentoring and Performance Management. This course also takes a neurodevelopmental, attachment and trauma Informed approach (NATI, © SAL Consulting 2013). You will focus on how to apply this approach to your supervision practice.
This course is for anyone who supervises – or anyone who is about to start supervising. Through practical exercises and scenario-based discussions, you and your fellow participants (both experienced supervisors and new supervisors) will gain a deeper understanding through experiential activities to consolidate your learning.
